Confidential,
New York, NY (On-site)
We are a steady mobile hyper-local company that has been around for 4 years and is seeking an exceptionally talented engineer to work for our Manhattan office. This is a full-time position.
WHO WE ARE:
Our platform lets anyone create communities around location-based content. With our platform, people use their mobile phones to explore and share their world in a new way. We combine user-created content with editorial and we currently serve channels programmed by sources including Ford, The New York Times Company, Time Out New York, and Travel Channel. We've been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Discovery Channel, Fast Company, Business 2.0, and across industry-leading blogs. Our work has won multiple mobile and advertising industry awards.
WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU DO:
We need someone to:
• Be an extremely self-motivated and prolific creator of world-class software that people will actually use (and enjoy using!) on the web and mobile web.
• Help define development strategy, including architecture and timeline.
This job is not for you unless you are excited and passionate about:
• Working very hard with a small team.
• Having a significant impact on the direction of the company.
• Working independently and finding creative solutions to complex problems.
• Creating an innovative product that will change the way people use their mobile phones
• Being pro-active and providing thought-leadership
Our technology is built with Ruby on Rails and open source. You don't have to be an RoR guru (yet), but at the least, you should have familiarity with the tech., have experience with the LAMP stack, and be excited to learn.
So...you should have experience in the following (or demonstrate that you’d be able to learn very quickly!):
• Ruby on Rails
• Understanding of standards based web design XHTML/CSS, not necessarily an expert
• XML / XSLT (a deep understanding)
• Web Services (SOAP, REST, XML-RPC)
• Versioning software (RCS, CVS, Subversion, we use Git)
• Open-source software
Experience in one or more of the following gets you extra points:
• Mobile development
• GIS
• Python / BREW / Symbian C++
• Search engine knowledge
• Understanding of Ruby on Rails administration
